Pastor Opung Radboud Waterreus, OFMCap ( Pastor Opung)
Misionaris Terlama di Pulau Samosir.
Pastor Radboud Waterreus, OFMCap Lahir di ‘s Gravenhage, Belanda, 14 Februari 1910. Beliau anak ke delapan dari 10 bersaudara dari keluarga Martinus Watrreus dan Anna van de ven. Keluarga penjual bahan-bahan makanan itu terbiasa hidup dengan penuh kesederhanaan. Tiga anak laki-laki dari keluarga ini terpanggil menjadi imam Kapusin dan misioner : Pastor Dimas, Pastor Radboud Waterreus, dan Pastor Yakobus (Misionaris Kalimanatan). Walaupun ayah mereka, Martinus, adalah pemasok istana dan keluarga tinggal disamping istana Noordeinde hal itu sama sekali tidak membuat mereka menjadi sombong. Suasana keluarga yang banyak memberi pelajaran kesederhanaan hidup hidup yang sedemikian rupa menjadi ciri khas Pastor Radboud. Beliau menceritakan bahwa kakeknya sangat kaya, tetapi kakeknya membelanjakan semua uangnya untuk membeli semua saham di perusahaan jawatan Kereta Api Rusia. Itulah sebabnya ketika pecah perang dunia I pada tahun 191, semua kekayaanya lenyap seketika.
Keluarga Waterreus tinggal di Paroki St. Yakobus. Di situ para Kapusin dai biara Ijmuiden sering datang menolong. Akibat sering berjumpa, maka Herman, lima tahun di atas Yan, tertarik menjadi Kapusin dan teladan Herman ini diikuti oleh Yan dan adiknya Yusuf. Ahirnya, Herman menjadi Yakobus, Yan menjadi Radboud dan Yusuf menjadi Yakobus.
Sejak tahun 1923 sampai 1929 Yan tinggal di Seminari Menengah di Desa Langeweg dan selepas itu beliau masuk Ordo Kapusin dan mulai kuliah filsafat dan teologi. Ia memulai tahun novisiatnya di Tilburg, dan pada tanggal 07 September 1929 beliau menerima nama biaranya Radbodus atau Radboud . Sesudah kuliah filsafat dan teologi beliau ditahbiskan menjadi imam enam tahun kemudian, tepatnya tanggal 4 Agustus 1936 oleh Mgr. Tarcius van Valenberg di biara Kapusin Udenhout.
Selanjutnya dia mengikuti tahhun pastoral di Breda dan di situ ia ditunjuk menjadi Misionaris di Sumatera. Pada tanggal 1 Desember 1938 dia berangkat ke Sumatera menjadi misionaris setelah terlebih dahulu mengikuti kursus Medis di Rotterdam. Dia tiba di Pelabuhan Belawan Sumatera Utara pada ahir Desember tahun 1938.
Setelah belajar bahasa Batak di Balige selama beberapa waktu, Pastor Radboud Wattereus memulai pekerjaan-pekerjaanya di Lintongnihuta.Pada Bulan Juli 1941 dia pindah ke Palipi, pulau Samosir, Pastor yang tidak bisa naik sepeda dan naik sepeda Motor ini (kereta) mengunjungi semua stasi dengan berjalan kaki. Karena itulah setiap orang mengenal beliau: bersosok tinggi, tampan, gagah, bertopi pramuka, memegang sebuah tongkat, selalu berjubah, benar-benar seorang rasul dan saksi hidup dari Injil Tuhan. Pada tanggal 6 April 1942 beliau ditangkap tentara Jepang dan membawanya ke Pematangsiantar, pertama – tama di tempatkan di Rumah Sakit kemudian di penjara. Setelah kemerdekaan RI pada tahun 1945 mereka dibawa ke Medan dan ditempatkan di Hayam Wuruk.
Pada tahun 1947, dia cuti selama satu tahun di Nederland Belanda untuk memulihkan tenganya yang terkuras selama 3 tahun di perjara. Pada tahun 1948 beliau kembali ke sumatera tepatnya di Kota Medan. Ahir tahun 1948 beliau kembali ke Balige, dan pada tahun 1949 pergi ke Siborongborong dan pada ahir tahun kembali ke Pangururan. Pada tanggal 06 Nopember dia diculik oleh beberapa orang pemuda pada malam hari, dan baru 4 hari kemudian dia dilepaskan. Pada tahun 1950 setelah situasi sudah aman dia kembali ke Pulau Samosir dan untuk sementara tinggal di Palipi.
Pada tanggal 06 april 1942 beliau ditangkap oleh tentara Jepang dan dibawa ke Pematang Siantar, pertama-tama di tempatkan ke Rumah Sakit dan kemudian di penjara
Di bulan April 1943 semua Misionaris Kapusin dibawa ke Kamp Sei Sengkol. Hampir tidak ada makanan, dan obat pun sangat kurang. Temanya, Pastor Benyamin Dikstra meninggal dalam Kamp itu. Setelah kemerdekaan pada tahun 1945 mereka yang masih hidup di bawa ke Medan dan ditempatkan di kompleks Hayam Wuruk. Mereka belum bisa kembali ke tanah batak, situasi masih sangat membahayakan
Pada tahun 1947 Pastor Radboud Waterreus cuti ke Nederland selama satu tahun untuk memulihkan tenaganya. Pada tahun 1948 beliau kembali ke Sumatera tetapi harus tinggal di Medan. Tahun itu sangat membosankan baginya karena menantikan saat terbukanya Tanah batak untuk para misionaris. Pada ahir tahun 1948, beliau berangkat bersama Pastor Marianus van den Acker pergi ke Balige, dan pada tahun 1949 dengan persetujuan Belanda, beliau berngkat ke Siborong-borong. Baru pada ahit tahun 1949 beliau berangkat ke Pangururan, tetapi pada tanggal 06 Nopember beliau di culik oleh beberapa orang pemuda pada malam hari. Dengan perantaraan instansi tentara Belanda dan Batak beliau dilepaskan sesudah 4 hari lamanya. Pada tahun 1950, ketika situasi sudah aman, Pastor Radbous Waterreus berangkat lagi ke Pulau Samosir dan sementara itu beliau tinggal di Palipi.
Pada tahun 1951 beliau berangkat ke Pangururan untuk tinggal menetap. Ketika itu Pangururan baru mempunyai 20 stasi dengan jumlah umat Katolik sebanyak 1500 orang. Tetapi pada tahun 1994 sudah memiliki 68 stasi dengan jumlah umat 35000 orang. Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa pastor opung ini telah mendirikan stasi sebanyak 48.
Selama kurang lebih 50 tahun Pastor opung berkarya di sumatera, 40 tahun lebih diantaranya berkarya di samosir, mengunjungi stasi-stasi dengan berjalan kaki supaya dekat dengan umat. Sering menginap di kampung-kampung, bercengkarama dengan umat, mendengarkan kekuatiran (arsak) mereka, bersama-sama merayakan sakramen-sakramen tanda kehadiran Allah dan memberikan bonbon untuk anak kecil. Ompung ini mempunyai perhatian khusus bagi orang sakit terutama yang mengidap TBC. Dia sering berkunjung ke penjara untuk memberikan semangat.
Di Pangururan ia mendirikan administrasi Paroki yang prima dan mengerjakan kronik Paroki. Ia membuat banyak misionaris yang muda terbiasa dengan kerasulan, dan untuk setiap orang ia menjadi teladan hidup mengenai kerajinan apostolik dan hidup kesederhanaan. Dia sangat rajin pergi ke Stasi dan hidupnya sangat sederhana. Kehidupan rohani dipupuk dengan doa rutin dengan bangun pagi pada pukul 04.00 WIB ketika fisiknya masih kuat, kemudian jam 05.00 WIB setalah tua. Bermeditasi di depan Sakramen Mahakudus dijalankannya selama bertahun-tahun untuk memohon kekuatan dari Tuhan. Kesetiaannya memakai jubah patut diteladani. Pastor Ompung ini berkotbah lewat teladan hidupnya. Ia berkorban bagi umatnya, suka menolong dan sangat setia mengunjungi orang di rumah sakit dan penjara.
Dengan demikian Pastor Radboud berkembang menjadi hampir seperti seorang Bapa leluhur ddari perjanjian lama dengan banyak anak-anak dan cucu-cucu rohani. Pada tahun 1986 ketika perayaan pesta emas imamatnya dia resmi mendapat gelar “ Pastor Opung”. Pada perayaan pesta tersebut Penjara (LP) Pangururan membuka pintu lebar-lebar agar penghuni LP tersebut dapat datang ke pesta tersebut ke Lumban Lintong. Semua berjanji kepada penjaga LP bahwa mereka tidak akan melarikan diri, dan benar saja mereka semua kembali ke LP setelah pesta selesai (kisah nyata). Mereka ikut manortor untuk menghormati Pastor opung yang begitu setia mengunjungi mereka setiap minggu.
Seiring dengan usianya yang semakin tua, kekuatanya pun semakin surut dan tidak sanggup lagi mengunjungi stasi-stasi. Ia makin sering melakukan “ Kerasulan kehadiran rohani”: lebih banyak waktu diberikanya untuk berdoa, memelihara korespondensi dan menulis surat pribadi kepada adinya Pastor Yakobus. Pada bulan –bulan terakhir hidupnya ia hampir buta dan lumpuh, kendati demikian dia tidak pernah mengeluh. Tepat pada tanggal 30 Agustus 1994, ia meninggal dalam penyerahan total segenap hidupnya kepada Tuhan dengan begitu setia. Opung naburju ini telah 25 tahun meninggal (30 Agustus 2019)
