Firman Tuhan pada Minggu XIV Setelah Trinitatis hari ini (Yosua 24: 13-25) adalah kisah lama dan yg biasa kita dengarkan, namun selalu menyegarkan dan memberikan sukacita, kekuatan, semangat dan pengharapan untuk melangkah sebagai orang beriman.
Satu ‘phrase’ paling terkenal dalam nats ini adalah “TETAPI AKU…,” yg menjadi pemantik posisi, pendirian dan komitmen yang tak tergoyahkan dalam hidup bersahabat dengan Tuhan. Kata-kata ini keluar dari mulut Yosua – Hamba Tuhan yg taat dan setia – Sang Pemimpin karismatik yang membawa bangsa itu melintasi Padang gurun dan hadangan musuh untuk masuk ke Tanah Perjanjian.
Yosua tahu bahwa dia sudah uzur. Tak lama lagi, masa kepemimpinannya akan berakhir. Dia akan meninggalkan dunia yang fana ini. Tetapi sebagai orang berkhikmat, dia ingin meninggalkan bangsa Israel dalam perjuangan yang pasti dan iman yang kokoh. Dengan demikian, sejarah keselamatan “Heilsgeschichte” bani Israel akan berlanjut.
Untuk itu dia mengumpulkan perwakilan semua suku Israel: para tua-tua, para kepala, para hakim dan pengatur pasukan. Dia menyelenggarakan semacam “Sinode Agung” di Sikhem, dalam rangka pembaharuan perjanjian dan komitmen untuk taat dan setia kepada Tuhan Allah. Yosua tidak mau memaksakan kehendak. Dia memimpin ‘Sinode’ tersebut secara demokratis.
Setelah membentangkan sejarah penyertaan dan intervensi (campur tangan Tuhan) dalam perjalanan mereka, sejak “exodus” dari Mesir termasuk kisah termasyhur di Laut Teberau,hingga “Yahweh” menyerahkan musuh-mush ke tangan orang Israel, dia meminta mereka semua merenung. Mereka dituntut untuk paham betul bagaimana hubungan bangsa itu dengan Tuhan. Setelah itu, mereka harus mengambil sikap. Yosua berkata,
“…Pilihlah pada hari ini kepada siapa kamu akan beribadah; allah yang kepadanya nenek moyangmu beribadah di seberang sungai Efrat, atau allah orang Amori yang negerinya kamu diami ini. TETAPI AKU dan seisi rumahku, kami akan beribadah kepada Tuhan” (24:15c).
Satu pernyataan eksistensial yang menentukan keberlanjutan “Heilsgeschichte” dalam perjalanan umat Tuhan. Bagi mereka tidak banyak pilihan. Tidak ada pemaksaan, bahkan upaya persuasi pun tidak ada. Yang ditawarkan Yosua adalah pilihan. Pilihan hanya dua: Menyembah Tuhan Allah saja, atau yang lain. Yosua menunjukkan keteladanan. Posisinya jelas. Tidak ada kebimbangan atau pun keraguan. Tanpa tedeng aling-aling dia berkata “TETAPI AKU…”
Satu ‘phrase’ yang memiliki makna yang luas dan dalam. Posisi Yosua dalam hal ini sudah kokoh dan tak tergoyahkan. Dia telah berani menerima resiko apa pun. Apa pun kata orang, dan apa pun posisi orang lain: apakah mereka mau menyembah allah nenek moyang mereka atau menyembah allah orang Amori atau mungkin allah-allah lain, tetapi pilihan Yosua hanya beribadah kepada Tuhan Allah saja.
Dengan sikap dan pendirian Yosua ini, umat Israel pun menyatakan sikap, “Jauhlah dari pada kami meninggalkan Tuhan untuk beribadah kepada allah lain…Kami pun akan beribadah kepada Tuhan, sebab Dialah Allah kita” (24: 16).
Leading by example – kepemimpinan dengan keteladanan. Ketika pemimpin jelas menunjukkan arah dan tujuan yang akan dicapai, dan dia benar-benar hidup sesuai dengan pernyataan dan prinsip yang dia nyatakan, maka yang lain akan mengikut dan loyal. Peribahasa China mengatakan, “Bukan teriakan/seruan yang membuat sekumpulan bebek tergerak untuk terbang tinggi, melainkan karena mereka melihat bebek liar terbang.”
Saudaraku, lebih dari kata-kata hikmat, lebih dari orasi berapi-api, bahkan lebih dari khotbah yang menggiurkan, kita butuh teladan. Umat Tuhan butuh teladan. Dunia ini membutuhkan keteladanan yang menginspirasi mereka untuk memilih yang terbaik dan hidup sesuai dengan pilihan tersebut.
Para tokoh inspirasional yang membawa trasformasi dunia, bangsa dan gereja adalah orang-orang yang mampu mengatakan “TETAPI AKU…” Satu posisi dan pendirian yang tidak tergantung pada situasi dan kondisi. Sikap yang tidak dipengaruhi oleh apa kata orang, dan bagaimana posisi orang lain. Mereka tak tergoyahkan. Mereka tidak takut kepada siapa pun dan tak khawatir dengan apa pun. Mereka yakin dan percaya betul bahwa pilihan yang mereka buat adalah yg terbaik.
Bapak reformasi gereha, Dr. Martin Luther, setelah mengalami tekanan yang dahsyat akibat dalil reformasi yang disebarluaskannya, diminta oleh para penguasa gereja dan kekaisaran Jerman untuk memberikan kesaksian, dengan harapan bahwa dia akan menarik pengajarannya yg dianggap “sesat.” Diet of Worms terkenal karena disinilah Luther menyatakan sikapnya yang menentukan kelanjutan Reformasi gereja.
