Dari Workshop Tentang Ulos Batak Toba.
Pemahaman Makna Penggunaan Dan Pemberian.
Sehari penuh hari ini Senin 7 Oktober 2019 dilaksanakan di Gedung Serbaguna HKBP Balige oleh Pemkab Tobasa bekerjasama dengan Lembaga Adat Toba.

Dari Pembahasan Makna dan penggunaan, terbongkarlah segala kesalahan penggunaan karena kekurang pahaman yang sudah terjadi lebih dari 70 tahun lamanya.
1. Ulos sebagai “abit” yang dililitkan dari pinggang hingga mata kaki. Ada yang melilitkan dari kiri ke kanan. Itu salah, karena melilitkan ulos itu dari kanan ke kiri. Ada nyanyian jaman perjuangan yang saya masih ingat syairnya “alo hamu sibontar mata na jaluk marabit i….” Kenapa sibontar mata disebut jaluk marabit? Karena bajunya dari kiri menutup ke kanan. Sementara Batak abitnya menutup dari kanan ke kiri.
2. Ada yang sudah membiasakan menggunakan sebagai abit ulos pinunsaan. Sebenarnya pinunsaan itu disandang. Kalau pria menyandangnya maka motip jantan didepan. Kalau wanita menyandangnya maka motip betina didepan. Motip itu harus berdiri karena itu motif pertumbuhan jadi harus tegak. Kalau dililitkan jadi abit, apa jadinya. Motif itu tak berdiri lagi tapi tertidur dan sebagian motif ditutupi.

Dari diskusi kelompok, ada kesimpulan kesimpulan untuk kembali ke hakekat pemanfaatan dan pemberian ulos ini. Masih akan dirumuskan Pemkab bersama perwakilan tokoh adat dalam waktu dekat untuk dijadikan buku.

Menyikapi workshop ini, dari diskusi singkat tadi sore dengan Trisna Pardede   di Cafenya, dia berencana menindaklanjuti membuat sejenis Diskusi Publik untuk generasi muda dengan topik yang sama sekaligus peragaan penggunaan di Batikta. Saya siap untuk hadir bila dibutuhkan, jawabku.

LANGKAH KANAN

Langka Siamun, sudah merupakan patron kehidupan masyarakat masa lalu. Langkah kanan dimulai terlihat saat manortor. Kalau badan berputar kekiri maka kaki kanan yang duluan melangkah. Saat tortor mangaliat juga berlaku, bila berkeliling ke arah kiri maka langkah kanan lebih dulu, dan idealnya begitu saat arah gerakan menuju kiri.

Tortor mangaliat pun selalu mengara putaran kekiri. Tidak hanya langkah kanan yang dimaknai disitu, tapi melawan arah jarum jam.

Leluhur Batak Toba sejak dulu sudah paham bumi ini bulat. Bila matahari mengarah ke Barat maka bumi berputar ke Timur. Perjalanan hidup selalu mengikuti putaran bumi, makanya matahari terbit selalu menjadi panduan pengharapan kehidupan “mata ni ari binsar”.

Dasar itu pulalah yang mengilhami putaran saat melilitkan abit dan talitali batak toba itu mengarah ke kiri, dan tortor mangaliat itu.

Kehidupan mengarah ke Timur dan kematian “sundut ni ngolu” mengarah ke Barat.

Maka kuburan orang mati selalu mengarah ke Barat, sebisanya begitu. Yang dihindari adalah arah kuburan jangan mengarah ke kampung (kehidupan), kecuali dibatasi jalan.

GONDANG HASAPI

Banyak orang Batak Toba sekarang ini menganggap bahwa gondang hasapi itu tidak formal dalam tradisi lama. Ini dikarenakan saat ini lebih mempopulerkan seruling dan kecapi hanya pelengkap.

Lembaga Adat Toba sengaja menampilkan perangkat musik tradisi ini agar orang muda mengenali dan mengetahui.

Dalam gondang hasapi justru seruling bisa tak disertakan, asalkan suara garantung itu bisa memanipulasi suara seruling. Dengar suara garantung itu.

Justru, disini biasanya tak ikut taganing. Ini sengaja mereka bawa mana kala ada yg minta hiburan dalam bentuk masa kini. Namun tokoh adat tetap konsisten maminta gondang sebagaimana komitmen mereka dalam pelestarian.

TUNGGAL PANALUAN

Ada pertanyaan yang muncul. Pertanyaan ini berdasarkan kegelisahan peserta dengan pemberian anugerah Tunggal Panaluan untuk pejabat yang datang.

Dulu semasa hidupnya (alm) Raja Bilher Marpaung berpendapat, pemberian Tunggal Panaluan kepada pejabat sangat tidak setuju. Apa dasarnya keberatan itu?

Banyak memang anggapan bahwa Tunggal Panaluan adalah lambang keperkasaan dan kehormatan para Raja di kalangan Batak Toba. Benarkah begitu?

Tunggal Panaluan muncul berlatar cerita sepasanga pemuda kembar (marporhas) satu lakilaki dan satu perempuan. Si perempuan diungsikan ke hutan untuk menghidari dalamnya cinta diantara mereka. Dalam cerita itu dikatakan berbagai cara mereka buat untuk bisa saling ketemu dan terjadilah. Mereka memanjat ke pohon kayu akhirnya lengket disana. Berbagai upaya dilakukan untuk melepaskan namun gagal. Akhirnya kayu ditebang, dan seorang Datu Panggana mengukirnya sedemikian rupa.

Karena indahnya ukiran itu, lalu dimanfaatkan para Datu Panusur untuk melakukan sugesti publik apabila terjadi kemelut di masyarakat. Upacara ini disebut “saem”. Seolah olah roh tongkat itu menegur orang orang yang bersengketa dan berniat jahat terhadap orang lain. Mereka takut lalu bertobatlah.

Apakah tongkat itu keramat? Untuk sementara saya berpendapat bahwa sang datulah yang bijak dan sakti. Dia hanya menggunakan tongkat itu sebagai alat bantu.

Apakah cerita kembar itu benar terjadi? Untuk sementara saya berpendapat bahwa itulah kamampuan sastrawan batak lama membuat cerita yang menjadi penuntun bagi semua orang bila kebetulan lahir marporhas.

Lalu apa alasannya memberikan itu kepada pejabat? Kalau sekedar cendera mata dari hasil karya seni, ya bolehlah. Tapi kalau disebut itu lambang kjehormatan seorang pemimpin, saya sependapat dengan Raja Bilher Marpaung, tak layak.
